Comedian
Marc Weingarten, to service collectors of
Thoroughbred Racing Memorabilia formed Spectacular
Bids. All of the objects available for purchase are authentic
items of racing history. Weingarten has unique
associations with racetrack personnel nationwide, the merchandise is
acquired directly from those individuals employed to care for the
horses. The horseshoes, for instance, are purchased directly from the
farrier. When he removes the shoes from the horse, he records the horses
name and race and tags them immediately for Spectacular Bids. The
saddlecloths are purchased in a similar manner, from the grooms,
trainers, assistant trainers and exercise riders. In other words, if
Weingarten were approached by a guy with a stack of losing
tickets claiming to own one of Secretariat's Kentucky Derby shoes, it
would not show up on this website.
What does show up are pieces of history that fans of horse racing
can now collect, with the assurance that the item purchased is as
described. A little bit of history preserved for the lovers of the
sport, at prices intended to guarantee an investment that will
appreciate. And if you feel the need to negotiate, have at it. |

So
how and why did Marc form Spectacular Bids? As
Weingarten tells it: "the formation of Spectacular Bids." began with the acquisition of The Deputy's
Santa Anita Derby saddlecloth, Spectacularbids was founded for three reasons. 1. The
love of the industry. 2. The ability to supply collectors with authentic
and historic race worn collectibles. 3. Marc has child support
payments to make.
Oh yes one final
thing, that is Mark on the right with two other jockeys
